Can you introduce yourself to our readers? What is your name and where are you from?

My name is Eniola Babarinde, and I am from the beautiful town of Ogbomoso, located in Oyo State, Nigeria.

How did you discover your passion for art, and what artistic medium, techniques, and materials do you primarily work with?

From a young age, I found solace and joy in expressing myself through art. Over the years, I have developed a strong connection with charcoal pencils, oil colors, and acrylic paints on canvas. These mediums allow me to bring my visions to life and create artworks that resonate with people.

How long have you been honing your artistic skills and creating art?

I started my artistic journey in 2017, and ever since then, it has been an exciting and fulfilling ride. Each piece I create represents a part of my growth and evolution as an artist.

Artistic Influences:

What inspires your artwork? Are there any particular themes or subjects that you often explore?

As an artist, I draw inspiration from various aspects of life. The core themes in my artwork revolve around children, women, and nature. These subjects carry deep emotions and stories that I believe are essential to be expressed through my art.

What are your goals as an artist?

My primary goal as an artist is to bring African arts to the world. I want to showcase the beauty, diversity, and cultural richness of Africa through my artwork. By doing so, I aim to foster greater understanding and appreciation for the continent’s artistic legacy while also sharing stories that resonate with people from all walks of life.

Creative process:

How do you come up with ideas for your art?

I actually come up with ideas through memories of places I have been, things I have seen, and some childhood experiences.

What is your creative process like?

The creative process is always very emotional and personal because my arts are memories, so I’m always too connected to them. I’m an emotional person, so I always enjoy the process.

What challenges do you face as an artist?

I can say some of the challenges are trying to make more Africans embrace the originality of African art and also support it.

How do you overcome these challenges?

I overcome the challenges by not giving up and putting more effort into my crafts.

Have you exhibited your art in any galleries or museums?

Yes, I’ve been fortunate enough to exhibit my work in several galleries. It’s an incredible feeling to see your creations displayed in such esteemed spaces, connecting with art enthusiasts from diverse backgrounds.

What are your thoughts on the art scene in Africa?

The art scene in Africa is experiencing an exciting transformation. I’m thrilled to witness a significant increase in the audience’s interest in African art. More and more people are embracing the rich artistic heritage of Africa, and this, in turn, has led to greater investments in the art industry. The growing recognition of African art on the global stage is heartening to see.

What are your thoughts on the future of African art?

The future of African art is brimming with potential. With the rising appreciation for our cultural expressions, African artists are poised to create a lasting impact on the global art stage. I believe the journey ahead will witness a beautiful amalgamation of tradition and innovation. Artists will continue to draw inspiration from their roots while incorporating contemporary techniques to craft captivating artworks that resonate with audiences worldwide.

What are your hobbies?

My favorite hobby is traveling.

What are your thoughts on the importance of art in society?

To me, art holds immense importance in society. It goes beyond just being visually appealing; it touches the core of our existence. Art has the ability to engage not only our minds but also our spirits and souls. It is a powerful medium that communicates emotions, thoughts, and experiences that may otherwise be challenging to express.
