A STOLEN VOICE.
The woman in this painting with the painful expression in difficulty. Trying to untie herself by all means from the microphones’ cables which chains her. But controlled by a hand on top of her symbolizes “AFRICA” which is the cradle of humanity & therefore needs of true freedom of expression as a right which must be defended by all means. Not a favor to be hoped for. Freedom of voice is the enemy of dictatorship because this is a people first line defense against anyone trying to cause harm to them. Freedom of voice is born out of autonomy of thought & conscience, of every person’s possibility to assume their own ideas. Share them & use them to find development for themselves, their activities and for their families in the society.
In a democratic society, which is the people’s voice by the people & for the people. Meaning people should be democratically allowed to express themselves freely in front of others. Otherwise, when people cannot express themselves, perhaps out of fear (not only because of “war” but of different types of social pressure or “violence” exerted by certain lobbies, media or government policies which are contradicting respect for the opinions of the majority), vulnerability arises.
Its a beautiful, well articulated and described. The artist doesn’t speak from without as he explains the need and importance of free free of expression.
