The painting by Popoola illustrates good tidings.
Title: “Portrait of a Lagos boy” ( “OMO EKO” series)
Medium: Acrylic on canvas
Size: ‘48 X ‘48 inches

Omo Eko Series.

This series of paintings focuses on the life, fashion, struggle, and joy of a typical youth in the city of Lagos. It captures different youth in different moods and postures as my muse. Visually we would see a halo around the head of the model in the piece. This is to communicate to the viewers that, even with the struggles and hustles an average Lagos youth is going through, they might still be a saint. I made use of the “Yellow and black” iconography. Which is the “Lagos color”. To send some inspirational message to the viewers about the iconic Lagos state and the good tidings that are there. The sunflowers in the painting are depicted to communicate hope and abundance. No matter what anyone might be going through presently, good times are awaiting us!
