Akera and Puturi.
The story of two young women, journeying in sisterhood through this big big world. Certainly aware of the insurmountable pressures of being a bold African woman in a society that refuses to acknowledge the strength of their presence. Clutching on tightly to their identities, their rights to be seen, be heard, and be respected. Bending to the call of their ancestors before them. We shall not get lost in the noise. We know our power, We belong here.

To begin with, our identities tend to be consequences of the beliefs we hold, experiences we have had, and the decisions we have taken in the environments we are in. For a bold identity, we need to be willing to change our beliefs, have new experiences and make new decisions where possible. Nevertheless, this is why we need to remain true to our identity in today’s society. In society, we are witnessing a challenge to notions of identity. Firstly, it allows us to gain a sense of belonging in the social world. From how we see ourselves and interact with others.
Secondly, our identities affect our life chances through our positions in society. As a result of certain thoughts and beliefs, and value systems of our cultural and familial teachings over time. What if there’s an expectation that we carry on with a particular value or way of life that does not feel right?. To attain a bold identity, we need to understand what our identity is telling us. Only then can we work out whether we need to make changes.
